THE TURTLE
An icon of the Mediterranean, the loggerhead turtle contributes to the balance of marine environments. Found on the beaches of the Camargue, it remains vulnerable to the destruction of its nesting sites and accidental catches. Nearly 30,000 adult turtles remain in the Mediterranean.
The Ross'Wild fund supports, alongside the National Society for the Protection of Nature , actions to protect this sentinel of the Mediterranean coasts.
Surveillance of outbreak areas
Protecting loggerhead turtle nesting sites in the Camargue, by monitoring beaches and hatching areas to ensure a safe environment for eggs and young turtles as they emerge from the sand.
Veterinary care
Reception and care of injured or weakened turtles, in collaboration with specialized centers, in order to offer them a second chance and to reintroduce them, once recovered, into their natural habitat.
Scientific research
Implementation of study protocols to better understand the lifestyle habits of the loggerhead turtle, mapping of areas of use, study of movements and behaviors, data collection to refine conservation strategies.
